Getting a domain name for your website, especially for the first time can be exciting! It can also be frustrating. You get a great idea for a domain name, only to find out someone else got that idea (and the domain name) before you. Don't fret. There are endless possibilities.

There are a few things to remember when registering a domain name though, especially if you're getting one for your business.

  • A domain name should be short. Remember, people are going to have to type this in to get to your site. Also, if you offer email addresses, no one is going to want to be bmorgan @ maniwishthisdomainnamewasshorter.com.
  • A domain name should be easy to spell. Again, people will have to type your domain name type get to your website.
  • Your domain name should be easy to remember. If someone sees your domain name in an advertisement, on your car perhaps, or hears it on the radio or from a friend, they're going to have to remember it. So it should be catchy and easily remembered.

That's the long and short of domain names. There are some other tricks and tips that you can use to make maximum use of your domain name or names if you get more than one, and we know most of them. If you would like to get started on your own, please visit one of our other sites Diversity Ink, and take a look around.
